Motherhood is the highest, holiest service given to mankind and of course assumed by human kind. It is the definition of selfless service. The toughest 24 hours job with No pay, No break, No annual leave, 24hrs a day, 365 days a year, and it is not just a year job or a decade job or even a century, it is a Life Time job! No job description. No qualifications or training given and most often unappreciated and yet resignation is impossible!Although it is a daunting responsibility but a glorious opportunity. The role of motherhood is divine. It is a special gift from God.
I could remember my mum in those days would wake up as early as 4 a.m in the morning to start the daily activities, she would start by muttering a short prayer to God, then goes straight to the kitchen to prepare the breakfast and simultaneously doing some chores like sweeping, cleaning, mobbing, doing the dishes, filling our water bottles for school, pack our bags, get our pant, socks, shoes and uniform ready for school. After we must have left for school, she would immediately takes off. to the bakery to buy bread that she would sell for the day and when finishes displaying the bread for sale (because she sells from home), she resumes back to the house chores, until we get back from school, to help in scattering the house, turning it upside down, and the whole process of re-arranging the house begins again, while preparing the dinner.
She always the last person to sleep and first to wake, even while we are all asleep in the middle of the night, she still goes around to check on us just to make sure we are fine. I use to think my mum was built to be like some form of machine or robot designed to work round the clock little did I know that I too will be made a robot someday. Now I understand or let me say I am beginning to understand what it means to be a MOTHER.
Being a mother is so much more than a biological process. It’s a heavenly job created by God before this life.
God chose mothers to bear the responsibility of providing physical bodies for His children through the miraculous process of pregnancy and birth. Being a mother means participating in the miracle that is God’s greatest work. God and mother, partners in creation, in love, in sacrifice, in service, they are as one.
The divine role of motherhood is exhibited in all women, whether they’ve born children or not. It is important to remember that the call to nurture is not limited to our own flesh and blood. Whether it’s an aunt, a teacher, a friend, or a community leader, we are all deeply indebted to the moral, steadying influence of good women in our lives.
